We’re back with our series on marketing your blog or business with food or recipes, and showing you how to leverage other food blogs to help your business.

This series focuses on recipes and food marketing, but these 3 leveraging tools can be applied to any category or industry. What ever industry you are in, there will be other bloggers to use as leverage.

Let’s touch on the basic notion as to why having a blog and blogging is good for business?

Because, it helps you find customers, and connect with them by networking with other blogs and bloggers.

When you are blogging using recipes or food to reach an audience, you can also connect to potential readers and customers by networking with other food bloggers.

The bottom line is that blogs are a source of potential leads and customers…period.

Here are three ways you can leverage the power of other people’s food blogs for your business:

1. Skip the Top Bloggers and Connect with Mid-List Food Bloggers.

One of the coolest things about the internet is the way it allows people in even the narrowest of niches to find others who share their passions. And while you may be frequenting industry forums to make your presence known, are you checking out the bloggers in your niche and becoming part of the community there?

Bloggers don’t have to have thousands of readers to be powerful, or to be potential customers. Go beyond just the top three or four well-known names and dig deeper for mid-list bloggers. Leave comments, and make a connection.

The top bloggers in most industries are inundated with attention and love, and your efforts may get lost in the melee. Mid-list bloggers are likely to be quite receptive and responsive. And even the smallest blogger deserves a comment or two from you. Introduce yourself and invite them over to your site. Issuing a couple of invitations like this a week takes only a few minutes and can pay off big time.

2. Study Food Blog Comments.

OF COURSE you’re paying attention to the folks who send you comments and suggestions directly on your own website or blog. But are you taking a look at what people are saying on other blogs in your industry?

Many blogs require anyone who comments to establish profiles or provide their email addresses or websites URLs. You can find out who the commenters are, visit their blogs, or email them directly if you think they’re a good fit for your product or service.

This should be a soft sell with no pressure. The goal is to establish a relationship, not to get a commitment to purchase. Take small, non-threatening steps.

3. Find and Use Food Blog Rolls.

Blog rolls were a huge thing five or so years ago when blogs were fairly novel. Bloggers wanted to show off who they read and who they associated with. Blog rolls are less common now, but they’re still out there, and they’re like referral lists from your customers!

Once you find a blogger who seems to be an ideal prospect, see who else they’re associating with, and follow the blog roll links like a trail of breadcrumbs. Hop from blog to blog, seeing who else is a likely prospect and start establishing a relationship.

Again, tread softly: “I saw your link on so-and-so’s site. I’m a big fan of his, so I thought I’d stop by. Love your post on Mother’s Day crafts; I just wrote a similar post on my blog. Stop by!” That’s all it takes.

It can be a little intimidating to just jump onto someone’s blog and begin commenting, but most people who publish blogs do so because they want to share their thoughts and ideas with others. You’re not butting into a private chat. Instead, you’re joining a public conversation with another like-minded individual. And that’s where relationships can start.

If you thought visiting other blogs was a waste of time, you were wrong!

Don’t discount the powerful resource other bloggers are for you in business, regardless of the industry. Now you know how to leverage your time you spend on other blogs, so you’re not wasting your efforts, but helping your business.

Are you the type of person who seeks out learning?

Learning can be the most rewarding part of life, and now we have this thing called the Internet to just make it so much easier to learn anything and everything. Plus it is fast!

Some people enjoy reading to learn, and some enjoy videos, so we like to provide many choices and flexibility in your shopping experience here at Mom Blogger PLR.

That’s why we have a la carte shopping for our PLR articles to get exactly what you want, we have quick downloads of information reports for business, marketing and social media, and now with our new Learning Shop we have video downloads from a huge range of topics.

Digital downloads are the future. Even though we all feel a little nostalgic over the loss of prior technology, technology always pushes forward. Video downloads remove all of the hassles of manufacturing, shipping and storage of discs, and once you have the download, you have it. Even without Internet connection.

We hope you enjoy this new way of purchasing and watching videos from our Learning Shop, and of course learning something new!

Natural Link Building…

Now more than ever, natural link building should be your focus. With the 2013 Google updates targeting link schemes, you should avoid any kind of forced link (don’t assume “nofollow” protects you), including ANY exchange for goods or services for a link. Just completely change your focus away from those tactics.

We’re still running our series of marketing your blog, food site or business with recipes, and highlighting natural link building to build your traffic, but this applies to everyone online.

The best type of link coming into your site should be from a reputable source, and it should be completely natural, meaning based on merit, and done voluntarily by that source.

How does this occur? You create such fantastic, delicious content that you get bookmarked by a reputable, relevant, 3rd party source. As you can see, there is no overnight, fast track on natural link building. It just has to happen, and if you force it, you could actually get punished now by Google.

Buying advertising through Google or Facebook will certainly build your traffic, but ads are a cost, and when they stop, the traffic stops. By all means, if you have the budget, buy advertising to help yourself, but if you don’t, you are going to have to focus on that show stopping content even more than before.

That being said, even if you are buying ads, when visitors arrive, they should like what they see and read.

Your content needs to be so good, that it gets shared, so when you are creating it, try to think of how others will absorb it. Ask yourself, would I share this? And of course, make it easy to share by providing all of the sharing buttons.

This is where really good photos of your food and recipes can help you. You can impact people emotionally through food, and they can be inclined to share your mouthwatering recipe on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter.

Your food and recipe content should include more than just the recipe, but personal details about why you made it or love it. Also bring things in like your table setting, serving dishes and eating room setting. Try to think of everything which encompasses the eating experience, and bring that to your content.

What are some ways to elevate your content as a food site or with recipes, while building links naturally?

1: Use the help of PLR. PLR recipes are so helpful, because you can really stylize, and cater to your readers with them being completely editable. You get the seeds of information, and you can envelop and simmer those details from them, and really make them exude such aroma and flavor that just must be shared.

2: Get to know other food site owners, because friends share friend’s content. It’s as simple as that.

3: Weed out blog network sites with unrelated links and low quality content. For example, they might have a post on making cupcakes, but the link within the article goes to a sun tanning site. It’s best to avoid these types of sites.

4: Reach out to sites that compliment your content, and try to make connections, such as visiting and commenting, and enticing reciprocation. You don’t want direct competition, but want a site that focuses on health and fitness to link to your healthful recipes, for example.

Overall, content is the heart of everything, and all of the efforts you make for link building come back to that core. Get your seeds of content, and make them simmer.

Are you using LinkedIn and Google Plus to market your Food site or Recipes?…

Let’s start with Google+, and if you missed any of our series of using social media to market your food site or recipes, you can find them here:

Recipe or Food Site Strategies for Marketing Your Business

Using Social Media to Promote Your Food Site or Recipes-Facebook & Twitter

Pinterest Power

Google+ can be used correctly to promote your food site with great results, even though it is not specifically set up for marketing your business. If you enjoy interacting and sharing with people online, like they are your friends in person, then Google+ can work for you.

Here are 4 things to consider when using Google+:

1: You want to have a fully targeted market that is already interested in your niche, so creating a specific group of Google+ friends for this purpose is ideal. You want this group to be interested in what you have to say about your food website or recipes, and share updates only with them.

2: As mentioned above, your interaction should feel very face-to-face, friendly and in person conversation. Try to interact with your circle in other ways besides promoting your site or products that are offered there.

3: Share others often. If you share the websites or blogs of others, rather than just your own, you’ll avoid being viewed as a spammer. This also encourages reciprocation, and you may get your site promoted in return.

4: This always gets said, but doesn’t always get followed. Don’t over promote yourself, and spam everyone. A casual plug now and then is ok or if you have something new you want to share. Perhaps a new dish you tried and found delicious.

Now on to LinkedIn!

LinkedIn can be called the social media outlet for adults, who want to market their business websites.

Here are 4 things to consider when using LinkedIn:

1: Market your foodsite by creating one or more LinkedIn groups. These groups have the potential to provide you with many new leads each day.

2: Be sure to use the same SEO keywords you use on your food site for the description of your group. Send weekly messages to drive traffic to your site, and ask questions of people in your group as well as personal messages.

3: Connect with others with similar interests to help pull on new leads.

4: Watch other successful businesses using LinkedIn to market their businesses, and find a way to work their methods into your own marketing plan.

Always remember that social media is just one aspect of marketing your business or foodsite. It’s very easy to spend all day on social media, but try not to fall into this trap. You could be developing a broader and more comprehensive marketing plan, and finding more time to implement it, if you limit your time on social media.

Always have your action plans and strategies in place before logging in to social media, and allowing it to rule your day. The best way to create your plan is to educate yourself on how each social media venue works for online marketers. We are always testing our own strategies, and then sharing our information here with you in our special reports, and linked above.

If you know your social media marketing plan, you’ll stay on track during your day.

Part II of our series of using social media to promote your food site or recipes covers Pinterest…

Pinterest uses the power of photos and images to capture attention. When you find something that really catches your eye or interest, you can “Pin” it to one of your “Pinboards”. Other’s can then view your “Pins”, and like them or share them on Facebook. They can leave a comment on your “Pinboard” as well.

Each “Pin” is linked to the original webpage(or should be), so if you were to create a “Pinboard” of food or recipe images, those could all link back to your website. You are driving the traffic to your own site based on the appeal of your photos and images to others.

In addition, other Pinterest users can “pin” your site to their Pinterest walls, and your exposure has the potential to increase dramatically.

Pinterest needs to be used strategically and effectively if you’re wanting to promote your business or site, and we have an entire series of how to do that over on our Club-Content blog. You can also learn about Pinterest Strategies from our BLOGmoda My Blog Social Networking Strategies and Checklists Information Report.

We’ll touch on some key points to understand how much Pinterest can do for you, and you’re always welcome to visit our other Club-Content sister site to read more…

1: There is an important relationship among Pinterest, Facebook and Google. They all seem to like each other and connect well. Images are powerful on Facebook too. What you “Pin” can be shared on Facebook, and Google seems to index Facebook and Pinterest.

2: As in all things online, don’t oversell or over-promote yourself. That’s why your content is so important, and we are including images with your content here. It’s the quality of your content that brings people your way. They will keep you in their minds based on the quality, value, intrigue or entertainment you provide. You can’t get ahead online as a spammer. You will be punished ultimately.

3: The key in using Pinterest is to appeal to people’s senses and emotions and in particular females, who make up the bulk of its users. The more visually stimulating your images are, the more they may “pin” them from your site to their walls.

4: The key to connecting this visual and emotional appeal to your presentation, is to know who your readers, customers and clients are, and create “Pinboards” that speak to their senses with variety, rather than always very specific to what you are promoting.

There are over 10 million visitors to Pinterest and that number is growing each and every month. If you are promoting things that lend well to great photos and females, and in particular food and recipes, don’t let this image focused social site slip you by.

Part I of using social media to promote your food site or recipes will cover Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook as you know is huge. Over 500 million of their users access their accounts and log in daily, with a total of over a billion users. There are so many people in one place for you to reach as a potential market, you would be out of your mind to ignore it.

The key is, to seek out connections on Facebook that are your target market by creating a business page, and drawing your target market to it. The reason why you want a separate business page away from your personal profile, is that you can brand it specifically for your site, and the most important part that we’ll cover more in depth later in our series, is that this business page gets indexed by Google.

Another plus to a business page is that it can be viewed by the public even if they are not logged in, so your customizations and branding can really speak for you outside of just the logged in viewers.

If you don’t have a Facebook business page yet, regardless of being a food site or posting recipes, you need to get one! I personally find it to be the most beneficial tool of all of the social media sites I use. It is one of the top referrers to our sites for traffic, and there are a variety of strategies you can employ for your own custom needs.

It’s something we focus on here at Mom Blogger PLR, and if you need help with your Facebook marketing strategies, we have custom consultation services in place to help you.

Now on to Twitter!

Twitter is also a great tool to use to promote your blogsite or website. You can also customize it and brand it to your liking.

Here are a few extra methods of marketing to implement with your Twitter use:

1: Put your website URL address in your tweets. If that makes your Tweets too long, you can use a link shorten service such as bitly.com.

2: Be sure to put your link to your food site or other website in your Twitter profile.

3: Create a custom background on your Twitter profile that helps market and promote your site. You can also have Christina here do it for you.

4: Stick to your target market, and follow other food sites, foodies or food/recipe related Twitter users.

5: Engage your followers in conversation.

6: Try various services to help you socialize and function like, Twitterfeed or TweetDeck.

7: Try a related service such as Triberr(another personal favorite). Triberr allows you to join a tribe of other Bloggers, who tweet out your blog posts to all of their Twitter followers. For example, you might only have a couple thousand followers, but you have 50 tribemates who have a couple thousand followers. Instead of just reaching your own 2K, you reached 100K followers on Twitter.

All of our Club-Content members are a tribe on Triberr, to receive that benefit of exponential sharing and promoting.

Next in our series of Recipe and Food Site Strategies for Marketing Your Business, we’ll get into other social media sites, and how to use them to your benefit for marketing. Stay tuned!

Before, we talked about how recipes are good for your business and blogging, and now we’ll get into the details of recipe or food site strategies for marketing that you can use for your brand or business.

*If you are a Mompreneur in particular, you probably cook every day for your family, so recipes and food are a very personal connection you can make with your readers, regardless of your business niche.

*If food is your business, and you have a food site, you can apply these same strategies to build your brand, and get found more in searches online.

Remember how your blogging is that invitation or outer shell of content that provides information or entertainment for your readers? They come to you for your content, and then they find you and your business.

That is the key to your business blogging, because you don’t want to oversell, and particularly now with the new 2013 Google updates on link schemes, you really can’t be promoting outbound links in your public content all of the time. If an outbound link is very natural to your content and helpful to your readers, you can provide it, but do it sparingly.

*(If you’d like to read more on these new Google updates, you can visit my personal blog, MommyLaDyClub.com, and find a series of posts under Attention Mom Bloggers in my sidebar.~Courtney)

This Recipe or Food Site Strategies for Marketing your Business will be a series of posts we’ll run on our Mom Blogger PLR blog in the coming weeks, and you can always browse through the recipe PLR categories we have for you to use on your own blogs. If you need a blog post, we have one for you!

Let’s get to the 3 basics of what recipes, food, menu plans, etc. as blog content can do for you in marketing first, so you know why using them on your site can help you.

1: They Are Good Content

2: Millions Want to Find This Content

3: This Content Brings Search Engine Traffic

1) *Google is looking for good, quality content to offer to their searchers, and you are providing it through recipes, food, etc. A recipe is straightforward information someone needs to find, and then you can add all of the perks, like extra details, the history behind the food item, great photos, a personal story relating to the recipe, or how you would change the recipe to fit your blog topics or expertise.

For example, if you blog about an organic lifestyle, you could take a recipe, and switch out the various ingredients to make it organic. Just think of how helpful that would be for your readers!

Another example of making recipes and food work for your blog niche, is if you write about business or fitness and health. Moms in business need help with time management, and you are offering that with time saving recipe ideas. Or, incorporating low calorie or low carb recipes into your fitness routine, can be useful information for your readers.

You can also be just a food lover, or have a local theme on your blog where you find the best restaurants in town. The ways to apply food and recipes to your blog topics does not always have to fit in a box. Get creative on how you present this type of content!

2) *Did you know just the word “recipe” alone receives over 100,000,000 searches per month? When it comes to knowing what to eat and how to prepare it, millions of people turn to the internet. There are so many words and keywords in the recipe/food category that people use in searches, and you can use these words in your content to help yourself be found.

3) *Of course, with this much interest, you can expect a healthy dose of competition. There are close to 1.6 billion food-related websites. But, for a food site owner, or Blogger who offers recipes and food tips, if you could attract even 1% of those people searching, you would have a large visitor base and the potential for big growth.

It’s a lot of competition, so it’s vital to understand how best to market your site for maximum results. We’ll cover that.

Stay tuned for our series of Recipe or Food Site Strategies for Marketing Your Business in the coming weeks.

WAHM…

Just what do these letters stand for? WAHM stands for Work At Home Mom. Over the past 20 years, more and more women have come out of the workplace and gone back into the home.

Have you ever dreamed of a job where you could spend time with your family and earn money at the same time? Most traditional jobs don’t offer that. But, becoming a WAHM could be your ticket to your dream. But, before embarking on such a quest, here is some helpful information detailing what it’s all about.

WAHM Equals Your Ticket to Being Home with the Kids & Earning an Income for Your Family

It hasn’t always been easy for women to work and take care of their family. Men had the advantage of being able to pursue a corporate career, and still come home in the evenings to the family.

Women with careers had a different path to follow. Besides working longer hours to achieve the same pay and credibility as their male counterparts, they also had to contend with the housework and the kids. After a long day at the office and doing the household chores, the kids sadly got what was left over which was usually a very worn out mother.

That has since changed. WAHMs are proving everyday that women can contribute to the family financial situation and nurture their families.

How to Get Started

If your income has been a big part of the monthly family finances, then switching to a work at home enterprise will cause your finances to take a hit. Be sure there is enough financial cushion in your bank account to weather the first six months of your new career. It will take time to establish your business.

Business Opportunities

First, figure out your interests and skills. You can find business opportunities to work for someone else doing everything from audio transcription to writing articles to accounting. Be aware that there are scams our there, and that legitimate companies looking for professionals won’t ask for money upfront from you.

Some WAHMs carve out their own niche and begin an online business. If you are skilled with crafting, you can create a website to promote your crafts and sell products on a site like Etsy. A blog is also another idea. Blog about your area of expertise and develop a following. Combine that with PLR, affiliate or search engine marketing to post often and generate revenue.

Balance Work and Home

With new career comes the issue of balance between home and work. Just because you are home, doesn’t mean you won’t need help around the house or time away from the kids in order to work. Consider these tips for creating a balance:

• Develop a set schedule for work and play on a weekly basis
• Discuss dividing up household chores between you, your spouse, and older kids
• Do pre-work such as fixing lunches, prepping breakfast, choosing clothing the night before
• Hire a babysitter once or twice a week
• Separate home office space inside the house

There are advantages to being a WAHM. Plan carefully and be patient. Support from your family makes all the difference.

It seems like there is no rest for the weary, and the weary person is usually Mom or Mompreneur. Moms and Moms in business take care of it all, but who takes care of them? If you are a busy Mom & Mompreneur, you can learn to value yourself as a person and how to de stress with scheduled personal time.

Personal time is a right of being a person. Each of us has the capacity to nurture others but that type of care takes its toll.

A car is filled with gas to make it run. Eventually the gas runs out, and your car won’t move unless the car is replenished with fuel. The same goes for you. Emotional issues can develop when you don’t take the time to take care of your emotional well-being, not to mention the physical results of emotional neglect. Not to mention, when you have personal neglect, you have business neglect.

Mom time refuels the tank so that you can give to your family as well as yourself and business in equal measure. Don’t be ashamed to sit for fifteen minutes doing nothing. In the springtime, relaxing in a hammock under a tree is the perfect getaway from the pressures of the day. Reading a book for 30 minutes can also seem like heaven to many moms.

Here are 6 tips to help you learn How To De Stress, and fit in much needed “mom” time:

1. Laugh at regular intervals. Keep a funny calendar cube on your desk or subscribe to a daily joke site. Laughing releases stress, and can lift your spirits significantly. It also keeps the abs tight.

2. Take exercise breaks. When you get a few minutes, the last thing you want to do is exercise but getting a little physical activity in your day has far-reaching implications. Exercise helps you to think clearly and stretches the muscles. Also, stress will drain away as powerful endorphins are released into your system. Do jumping jacks during a television commercial, or jog to the bus stop to pick up the kids.

3. Get up early if you have to. When you have kids, the day begins at a hurried pace. Once you hit the ground running, there is no stopping you. Waking 30 minutes to an hour ahead of time means quiet solitude to drink your coffee, read a book, meditate, or listen to music.

4. Turn ordinary experiences into major events. When you take a bath, add candles, bubble bath, quiet music and/or an inflatable bath pillow. Your regular bath has now become a spa level experience. If you watch a movie, turn out the lights, pop a bag of microwave popcorn and curl up on the couch.

5. Use the Boy Scout motto. Always be prepared and you can spend more time in a relaxed mode. Fix lunches the night before. Make your business daily checklist. Iron clothes for the next day, and place backpacks by the front door so kids can grab them on their way out. The fewer things you have to do throughout the day, the calmer you will be with your family and not experience burnout.

6. Ask your significant other for help. Kids love their mothers but time spent with dad is important too. Let them bond with dad while you go shopping for a new outfit, or root around in the garden. Since the time is yours, do whatever you like.

Moms and Mompreneurs, take care of you. Your family would miss you if you were not around to love and care for them. You owe it to yourself to learn how to de stress, and you deserve a break from the daily hustle and bustle.

How Can You Make Money?…

We cover a lot for small business owners and cater to them with ourClub-Content membership options, but we also help Moms & Bloggers learn How You Can Make Money from Helping other Moms, and using their blogs as business tools.

Many Moms & Bloggers don’t realize they have a built-in ability to create a signature product of their own right from their experiences and blog posts already, and utilize their blogs to help and inform other moms, as well as promote and sell a product.

It’s just right in front of them, with a little creativity and an ability to discover their voices. Then, all they have to do is go right to their built-in network. Because, if it’s one thing moms can do, it is to stick together. Moms all know that making life run smoothly with kids, home and career can be a tall order. Communicating with other moms helps to ease this stress.

If you are looking for a business venture as a Mom or Blogger, why not make money helping moms just like yourself, and use your own blog to do it?

What will you offer to these moms?

Well, your product is as close as your memory. Your expertise is the product you can market to moms everywhere. There are situations that you have encountered and overcome as a Mom that other mothers are facing too. They could benefit from what you know to make their life a bit easier.

How can you make money from helping other moms?…

Packaging your Product—Utilizing eBooks & Digital Publishing:

First, take note of your life experiences, and look through your blog posts, and what you write about, and summarize some thoughts and advice down on paper. You probably have a lot of good advice to offer but it won’t sound like much unless you can get it out of your brain and into a legible format.

If you have a talent for writing this will be less of a challenge for you. If you need to, take a writing course to bone up on the finer points of writing outlines and organizing your thoughts on paper.

Your format for these organized thoughts is an eBook. Everyone has heard of them but might not know exactly what they are. An eBook is essentially a book in digital form. You can create and publish them yourself using our Digital Publishing PLR for Kindle, Lulu & Nook linked above. For the work that you put into the project, you are greatly rewarded with pure profit.

Things to consider with eBooks and Digital Publishing:

1) The first consideration is the length of your eBook. A typical eBook can have as few as 70 pages or as many as 150. People will pay more for longer eBooks.

EBooks are popular media because they can be downloaded or printed in an instant. As soon as the payment is processed, the customer gains access to the eBook. No storage space other than what is on your computer or flash drive is needed to house the eBooks people buy.

Selling your eBook:

2) Consider your market–other moms. Let’s say that the subject of your eBook is getting a toddler through her terrible twos and threes. Just fill your eBook with information that moms want to know such as:

• Tips for bedtime

• Disciplinary tips

• Going out in public

• Dealing with mom stress

• Testimonials

• True life examples

All of these ideas can be used to flesh out your eBook. These same bullet points can be selling points for your eBook. Then, if you have a blog, you can create the eBook website page on it, use snippets from stories in the book, testimonials from others who have read the book, and a partial list of chapters in the eBook as advertising on your blog page.

EBook Promotion:

Condense chapters into enticing articles that you submit to article directories. Try not to give away too much because you want moms to buy your eBooks. Then, supply a link to your website in the resource box.

As a Mom, you can join online clubs, forums and communities to share your helpful advice with other Moms. Use a link to your eBook page in your signature line for easy access. As you develop a following on these groups, other members will visit your site and see your eBooks.

EBooks & Digital Publishing are simpler to create and market than Moms think if you have a blog and the right information. It might not occur to Moms either, that using PLR is another ready-to-go resource for an eBook. It doesn’t have to be demanding or daunting to have content for a product using PLR.

Moms and Bloggers have opportunities to turn PLR and their blogs into idea resources and promotion tools more than they know, but hopefully now after reading this, they will see the easy answer to, “How Can You Make Money from Helping Other Moms?” right in front of them!
